At the end of May, in the Voivodship Hospital No. 1 in Chopina Street in Rzeszow, the first two operations in the region using the da Vinci surgical robot were performed. Podkarpackie Robotic Surgery Centre is already the 15th authorised centre using the da Vinci robot in Poland.
More da Vinci robots = more procedures
The number of surgical procedures in Poland performed with the assistance of the da Vinci robot is growing dynamically. In Q1 2021, despite the pandemic, Polish centres performed 415 procedures, 57% more than a year earlier! What is important, since mid-2020 the number of procedures performed with the assistance of da Vinci robot in public institutions has been increasing systematically.
The da Vinci system brought to Rzeszów, manufactured by the American giant Intuitive Surgical, is currently the most advanced robotic system in the world. A partner of the Podkarpacie Robotic Surgery Centre is the NEO Hospital Group, which runs one of the medical centres of this kind in Central and Eastern Europe.
Surgical robotics with promising development prospects
According to the report “Surgical robotics market in Poland 2020 – Development forecasts for 2020-2025”, prepared by Upper Finance and PMR, the number of systems used by medical facilities in Poland will increase to 40 by the end of 2025, while the number of procedures using them will exceed 10,000 per year. The development is supported by the experience from the pandemic period, which showed how important the values associated with minimally invasive surgery are.
Procedures performed with the support of the da Vinci robot mean greater precision of operations, reduced surgical trauma, faster wound healing, less postoperative pain, less blood loss and, above all, a lower risk of infection, reduced complications and faster patient recovery.
