According to the latest PMR report, in 2018-2023 the segment of imaging diagnostics services in Poland will grow at an average annual rate of 5.7% (CAGR). X-ray and ultrasound examinations have the highest market share in terms of value of imaging diagnostics.
NFZ the basis for funding
The segment of imaging diagnostics, especially the cost-intensive ones such as magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography and nuclear medicine research, is strongly dependent on the financing of the National Health Fund. Therefore, a factor that has a significant impact on the value of the imaging diagnostics market is the state policy on concluding contracts with healthcare providers and the amount of public expenditure on diagnostics. Due to relatively stable expenditures on this objective at the National Health Fund, we forecast a stable and moderate increase in the value of the imaging diagnostics market. It is also worth noting that the changes in the financing of health care in Poland are the biggest factor in the development of the imaging diagnostics market, according to the respondents to the PMR survey conducted among healthcare providers specifically for this report.
Private expenditure, both FFS and medical subscriptions and additional health insurance will also be a factor in the market development. In this segment, growth will be driven by strong household consumption, supported by a strong labour market situation. Low and still falling unemployment as well as rising wages and consumer confidence will contribute to increased household spending, including private spending on diagnostic tests. On the supply side, the growth will be stimulated by investments of private medical companies in the development of the diagnostic base.
