MZ promises: Since April CT and MRI without limit
Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) will be financed without limit from April. Such an announcement was made by the Minister of Health, Łukasz Szumowski, at a press conference at the beginning of March. The Ministry of Health will also remove the limits for financing cataract removal operations.
The National Health Fund will guarantee a quarterly increase in the number of branch contracts, in line with the value of services provided. According to the Ministry of Health, this will make it possible to “significantly shorten the waiting time” for imaging diagnostics examinations. In the case of cataract removal surgery, the waiting time for the procedure will not exceed 6-9 months.
In 2018 The National Health Fund financed 2.25 million CT and RM examinations. It allocated nearly PLN 1 billion for this purpose. PLN 700 million was allocated for financing 313 thousand cataract operations.
However, the saturation, especially in the case of RM, is relatively low in Poland. Therefore, the abolition of the limits may encourage some entities to invest in diagnostic laboratories.
