The first Diagnostic and Therapeutic Center for Rare Diseases in Poland was established in Wroclaw. The Center is run by the foundation “Potrafie Pomoc”. Patients will be able to use the facility from January 2021.

The first Diagnostic and Therapeutic Centre for Rare Diseases in Poland was opened on 4 December 2020 in Wroclaw, and the first patients will be admitted in January 2021. The Center is run by the foundation “Potrafie Pomoc”.

The facility has more than 20 rooms, including a room for sensory integration, a room for experiencing the world and a room for physiotherapy. The Center employs over 50 specialists including neurologists, psychologists, psychiatrists and therapists.

In addition, the Center houses the first gynecological surgery for disabled women in this part of Poland.

According to estimates of the Ministry of Health, 2.3 to 3 million people in Poland may suffer from rare diseases. Approximately 8,000 rare diseases have been detected in the world so far, affecting 6 to 8% of the population.

According to the definition recommended in the EU, a disease is considered rare if it affects no more than 5 in 10 thousand people.
