The new strategy for combating the COVID-19 epidemic assumes an increased role of family doctors (POZ). According to the presented recommendations, from September they will be able to order tests for coronavirus after a telephone interview. The changes also apply to single infection hospitals.
POZ doctors and the new strategy
Currently reimbursed by the NFZ, the tests for people with suspected COVID-19 disease are carried out on behalf of a hospital, sanitary facility or, following telephone qualification of people in quarantine via drive-thru points. Since September, with the expected increase in the incidence of COVID-19 in the autumn, such a possibility is also to be offered to POZ doctors.
The Deputy Minister of Health has also informed about the planned reduction of the network of single infection hospitals. Therefore, in regional and district hospitals outside the network of single infection hospitals, the ministry wants to create isolation facilities with at least one OIOM post, where patients with suspected COVID-19 coronavirus could be diagnosed. The new strategy also assumes the expansion of the network of laboratories testing for coronavirus. The strategy was discussed in the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers. In the nearest future, the proposed solutions should take the form of regulations.
Responsibility for decisions taken in relation to COVID-19
It is worth noting that this is not the only change proposed in the scope of actions implemented in the fight against the pandemic. As of 19 August, the number of samples tested in Poland for coronavirus infection was over 2.4 million, according to official data presented by the Ministry of Health. At the same time, the number of diagnosed infected people in Poland increased to 58,611 people, including 1,913 people who died.
For example, a week ago, a bill was proposed to abolish the responsibility of politicians for decisions taken in relation to COVID-19. The bill to amend the law on special arrangements for preventing and combating COVID-19, other infectious diseases and crisis situations caused by them assumes that a person does not commit a crime, who, in order to prevent COVID-19, violates official duties or applicable laws, if he acts in the public interest and without this violation, the action taken would not be possible or would be difficult.
